Tissue Growth and Tumor Growth’
نویسنده
چکیده
Tumors in general and cancers in particular are tissues growing under special conditions. A comparison between the laws determining tumor and tissue growth will deepen our knowledge of the physiology of tumors as well as of tissues. There exist similarities and analogies in the behavior of both, and there are differences either real or due to a gap in our knowledge. The differences will suggest new problems. In this brief r6sum6 no attempt at completeness will be made, and we will have to be content with mentioning some of the salient points. We shall first compare the causes of tumor and tissue growth, then the reactions of the host organism against tumor and tissue growth, and lastly, certain phenomena observed primarily in the tumor cells. We will have to inquire how far the last mentioned phenomena are duplicated in tissue growth. 1. Tissue growth is initiated by external factors affecting a more or less complicated system and leading to chains of reaction which may be identical, or at least similar, even in ‘cases in which the primary causes differ. These primary causes are called “formative stimuli’’ in order to distinguish them from functional stimuli. It is probable that essentially both kinds of stimuli are identical and act in a similar manner. The difference in the result of both kinds of stimulation depends probably on the quantitative differences in strength and time, and on the differences in the systems on which they act. 2. The primary causes initiating tissue growth may be either

Introduction: Breast cancer is a cancer that is caused by abnormal growth of breast cells. Modeling and simulation of the growth and treatment of breast cancer, along with providing the possibility of doing experiments and research, can reduce the time and cost of treatment by predicting some cases. The purpose of the present research was to develop an agent-based model for the simulation of b...

Objective(s): The goal of this study was assessing the prophylactic effect of exercise and its role as an adjuvant therapy on level of cytokines involved in angiogenesis in estrogen-dependent breast cancer. Materials and Methods: Forty female BALB/c mice were randomly assigned to exercise-tumor-exercise (ETE), exercise-tumor-rest (ETR), rest-tumor-exercise (RTE) and rest-tumor-rest (RTR) groups...
متن کاملBlockade of Hypoxia: The Impact on Tumor Growth in an Experimental Tumor Model
Background: Tumor microenvironment is an active factor participating in immunoregulation, thereby preventing immunosurveillance and limiting the efficacy of anticancer therapies. Hypoxia as a major characteristic of solid tumors causes the expression of Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1α (HIF-1α). This is a transcription factor that mediates hypoxic responses of tumor cells and involves in the express...

Objective: The goal of this research was to determine the influence of 4 weeks aerobic training on gene expression of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in the cardiac tissue of diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: In an experimental study, 30 male wistar rats were partitioned into three groups (n=10), d...
متن کاملTwo Dimensional Mathematical Model of Tumor Angiogenesis: Coupling of Avascular Growth and Vascularization
Introduction As a tumor grows, the demand for oxygen and nutrients increases and it grows further if acquires the ability to induce angiogenesis. In this study, we aimed to present a two-dimensional continuous mathematical model for avascular tumor growth, coupled with a discrete model of angiogenesis. Materials and Methods In the avascular growth model, tumor is considered as a single mass, wh...
